National Recycling Week 2021

8 November 2021
This National Recycling Week, 8th to 14th November 2021 Grasshopper Environmental is encouraging key industries associated with the largest production of waste to take the time to assess current waste habits and to implement strategies to recycle right.

Founded in 1996 as an opportunity for Australians to improve their recycling knowledge and build better recycling habits, National Recycling Week, founded by Planet Ark, aims to help businesses and Individuals take ownership of waste and recycling issues and to commit to plans and strategies that increase recycling. This year, National Recycling Week celebrates the 25th year of its campaign.

From the 8th to 14th November 2021, Grasshopper Environmental is celebrating National Recycling Week by encouraging those in construction and demolition and commercial and industrial sectors to brush up on their recycling knowledge and to discover new ways to cut down on waste and improve recycling and reuse. This week is all about celebrating the important role recycling plays in our industries and in our lives.

“The pandemic has challenged the way we live, work and interact with the world around us and has offered us the chance to build a better future. Now is the time to celebrate recycling and its benefits while recognising how we can further improve on our own knowledge and behaviours.” said Planet Ark co-CEO Rebecca Gilling.

Grasshopper Environmental has come a long way in recycling and resource recovery from its beginnings over 40 years ago. Today, recycling technology allows us to recover greater resources from construction waste, commercial waste, and dry waste to beneficially reuse them to manufacture new products or to create energy from waste that can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels.

When recycled material is reused in the manufacturing process, a circular economy is created. Apart from saving precious natural resources from being used, a circular economy stimulates the local economy and creates jobs.

“The advancements Australia has made in recycling since 1996 are something we should all celebrate as a strong recycling industry is highly valuable for both our environment and our economy,” – Planet Ark co-CEO Rebecca Gilling.

It all begins however, with putting the right waste items in the right bin, so that every material has the best chance of being recycled every single time.

This National Recycling Week, Grasshopper is encouraging key industries including Construction & demolition (C&D) and commercial & industrial (C&I) contributing up 80% of the total waste generated each year (National Waste Report 2020) to take the time to assess current waste habits and to implement strategies to recycle right. Grasshopper has released a new series of waste education posters aimed to encourage greater source separation and to educate on the correct use of waste and recycling bins
